A Quiet Life

At 34 and single, I decided I had enough of the city rat-race and moved to a quiet rural town away from the hustle and bustle of the city. I'm well off and worked from home even before leaving the city. I got a nice home on the edge of town with nice views towards the mountains in the distance. Then I found out the 20-acre block of land behind my home was for sale and listed as a prospective industrial site. I didn't want that and purchased the block, instead of going thru all the effort of opposing the rezoning of the land that would have been needed. Now with 20-acres, I decided to get a horse and had stables and yard built. The boundary fence was in good order, I also had a bore sunk for water and a large storage tank installed. Then I went to the nearest livestock auctions to buy a horse. Nothing at first caught my eye, then I saw the horse I wanted. But it was in a group of 3, so I decided 1 or 3 not much different and ended up getting them. I had them delivered and got them settled in. I went into the towns weekend market and got some things and there were apples by the barrel load available. So I got some for me and my horses and then I met Linda 32 the widow of my late friend Jerry. Jerry had died 2 years before in a skiing accident and Linda had left town shortly after the funeral. Linda had moved back to her parent's place and I found out, she only lived a little way down the road from me. Also that my 20-acre block joined their back fence, she liked to walk across my the block for exercise. She asked me How I was doing and had I met some special yet. I replied I was doing fine and wasn't seeing anyone at all and how was she doing and was she seeing anyone special. Fine and no was her answer, we left each other saying we must catch up some time soon and I returned home. The next morning I was at the stables feeding an apple each to the horses and Linda walked up to say Hello and see my horses. Linda asked Did I ride them, I replied Yes in the afternoon mainly. I also asked her did she ride, she answered Yes she hired a horse a couple of times a month. I said No need now you can borrow anyone of mine anytime you want. She asked me was I going riding today, I replied as soon as I had cooked my lunch and had it I would probably go for a ride. Have you started your lunch yet she asked, No I replied and she said come and meet my parents and have lunch with us, there is always heaps. I agreed and she left for home saying Lunch is at 12 noon. I arrived just before and met Henry and Barbara Linda's parents. We had a great lunch together and Linda returned with me to my place and we went riding together. We started seeing each other a lot and were soon sleeping together and I was thinking of asking her to marry me and looking at rings online. Then Linda told me she was pregnant, I said Great and asked her straight away about marrying me and showing her the rings on the computer I had shortlisted. She was happy that I took it so well and agreed to marry me. We married 30th June this year.
