Childhood Friend

I'm Jane back when I was 7, I lived next to Max 8 at the time and we were best of friends. We stayed besties till I went away to university and he stayed behind training to be a Carpenter. I was away for 7 years and even those I returned during breaks, Max and I weren't the close friends were before. As I hardly saw him on my visits, After finishing university I stayed in the city and started my career in law. On the sudden death of my father, when I was 31 I returned home to live with my mother Joyce. Max still lived next door and had bought the house from his parents and they had retired to the coast. Max was still single and always working Joyce told me and as far as she knew no girlfriend. I said Are you trying to get us together, maybe was her reply. It was almost two weeks before I saw Max and even then he was in a rush, he was building a house for a new doctor in town and had to finish it within a week. But the doctor kept making last minute changes and it was making harder to finish on time. There was a penalty clause in the contract and it would cost him 10% of his total payments. I said When you finish today bring the contract over and I would look it over. He agreed and that evening at 7 pm he arrived, I looked over the contract and advised him on what he could do. With 3 days to go the doctor made another change to the house and Max advised him of that there would be a delay, as there wouldn't be any way of getting the materials in time. The doctor wasn't happy and said it would bring penalty clause into action. But Max replied That Due to late changes in his requirements it wasn't possible to change the orders already in place and that due to this he the doctor would have to pay the extra costs. He also pointed out the clause in the contract that stated this. The doctor then decided not to do any change and Max was able to finish on time. Max bought me a bottle of wine as a thank you, from then on we started to see each other more. I also started to advise him on his legal matters. We started dating and sleeping together and then we married last year August. Our first child is to be born in August.
