Taking over a business

I bought a small business in a country town, as I was fed up with city life. I had been very successful and then divorced and splitting everything with my ex-wife. I decide to make a change in my life, my children were old enough to look after themselves. I started at the business 2 weeks before taking over fully, to get a handle on how it worked. No problems as far as I could see, once in full charge. I started looking at improvements I could make, not major. Some new equipment and that was about it, but some of the staff were nervous about me the new owner. Thinking I would cut staff and they might lose their jobs. I had no such ideas and planned to renew the equipment, mainly because parts for the old equipment were getting harder to find and breakdowns were happening regularly. Once the new equipment started arriving, one of the staff became very worried about her job. At 57 she thought she wouldn't be able to get another, I had told everyone I was just renewing the old equipment. She still thought her job was going, then she stayed back one day and offered me anything to keep her job. I was in a hurry and could've handled it better, but I had to go and catch a plane to go to my daughter wedding intestate. So, she was convinced her job was going and the following Monday.
