Reunited

I was 22 (2018) and at university and thought I'd found my perfect life partner; she was also 22 at the time. Suddenly she disappeared no reason just gone; her cellphone turned off and I couldn't get any information from anyone. I finished university and hadn't dated since her departure and even had enquired with the campus police. They said she was okay and that's all, no deals on why she had left so suddenly. I started in my chosen career and started to rise up the ladder. At 28 I got a promotion to head of section and it meant a transfer interstate. At my new workplace I met my ex-girlfriend working in same company as I did. She still looked good and recognized me straight away also, unable to talk then and there. She gave me her address and told me to visit her on the Saturday at 1pm. I duly turned up at the house at 1 on the Saturday and at first met her mother (widowed 2020) and then my ex-girlfriend appeared with her 5-year-old daughter. She told me she had gotten pregnant to me and at first told her parents, her father pulled her out of university and back home allowing no contact with me. He was a born-again Christian and believed his daughter had shamed the family and more importantly him. Nothing she said he would listen too, after having our daughter and unable to go anywhere. She raised our daughter under the glare of her father until October 2020 when died of Covid. He'd not taking any precautions and being a lifelong heavy smoker his lungs failed under the strain of Covid. Due to restrictions and the funeral, both her and her mother having to work to get by and stop the bank foreclosing on their home. She also thought I would've moved on also and so she made the best of things as she saw it. I felt the same about her as did before, it hadn't diminished one bit. I asked her then and there to marry me and she accepted as she felt likewise. We married in July and my now wife is pregnant again, their home is also my home and fully paid off with the bank. My daughter was happy to finally meet her father and is overjoyed to be having a brother early next year. My wife still works with me at the company, except now she is my assistant. It the only job that allows her enough time off to have doctor's appointments and other things without losing pay. As she only answers to me, otherwise we are hardly apart.
