Send Overseas

My family were unhappy with my schooling, and I was sent overseas to finish my education. My family became alarmed at schooling, due to my lack of actual knowledge on other countries. I was doing well at school but failed basic knowledge of other countries. As my family's business was internationally based, they saw the need for me to expand my horizons. I had been raised to speak English, French, German and Italian, so I would be able fit into the family business better. Not fluent in all, but able to get by I was send to Briton for my university schooling and able to travel easily to the continent on weekends and breaks in my studies. Staying with longtime family friends and having family visiting me regularly. It was an eye opener to say the least, the other countries weren't the backward countries I'd thought them to be from what I'd learnt back home. On trips back home, it became very clear our schooling was failing us badly. Staying in France for a holiday during a break, I met and fell in love with the daughter of a neighbor of the family friends I was staying with. We became lovers and she got pregnant, but we were already engaged at that time anyway and were just waiting until my family could all be present for the wedding. My family bought us a home with a great history attached to it. A lot larger than we would need, but there are always family and friends regularly visiting. In the 7 years since we married, and I was promoted to be the continental manager for the family business and I'm very happy with my lifestyle. It is freer than back home, and their government actually look after their people with free health care and a better work life balance. Our business tries to give our worker back home similar lifestyle including medical coverage. It helps keep good staff and reduces the need to keep training replacements, which is expensive in our line of business. I still think my country is the best, but it does need improving on basic needs of the people.
